You Think You Know Him?

Recently we had Ustadh Hisham Abu Yusuf on the pod, and let's just say, he dropped knowledge.

If you missed it, Ustadh Hisham is the one behind the viral series on the Names of Allāh

But interviewing him got me thinking, why should we actually learn these beautiful names?

Glad you asked! I thought I'd lay out exactly why knowing His names matters:

1. Loving Someone You Don’t Know? Good Luck With That.

Imagine trying to convince someone you're tight with a guy named Yahya, then blanking out when asked his last name.

Awkward, right?

How can we claim to love Allāh deeply if we barely know His names? Each name is a different shade of His mercy, His strength, His majesty.

To love deeply, we have to know deeply.

2. Level Up Your Du'as.

Your du'as might be solid now, but mentioning Allāh’s specific names in your prayers is like switching from economy to first-class, everything hits different.

If you're asking for forgiveness, call upon Al-Ghafūr.

Need mercy? Turn to Ar-Rahmān.

Knowing these names doesn’t just decorate your du'as; it amplifies them.

3. It's a Manual, Not a Menu.

Allāh didn't reveal His names just for us to not understand them.

Each name is a divine roadmap, guiding us to better understand life's trials, triumphs, and everything in between.

Knowing Al-Hakīm (The Wise) reassures us that even life's hardest hits have purpose.

Understanding Al-Wadūd (The Loving) reminds us we're never truly alone.

So, let’s make a deal: dive deeper into these beautiful names. Start by catching Ustadh Hisham’s episode if you haven’t yet. Trust me, it’s a good one.

That's your inside scoop on the Names of Allāh, Freshly Grounded style. Remember, knowing Him well is how the real ones move.
