Money: are we lying to ourselves?

A good friend of mine sent me a VN some time back and as I went to message him on whatsapp the other day I saw it and realised I never listened to it. The truth is, Allāh saved it for me to hear now. It was pretty powerful.

Hereā€™s what he said:

ā€œSo a really good concept to discuss on the podcast the concept of ā€œI want to get more money, so I can give more to charity, and I can seek knowledge etc.ā€ It's interesting because the way I see it is that you want to change your financial situation so you can worship Allah but instead of working so hard and spending years to try and change your financial situation to worship Allah, Why don't you just worship Allah now?

If that is truly the end objective, that my only objective through this is actually to worship Allah.

We spend our whole lives just trying to change our situation, instead of trying to worship Allah through our current situation.

And what happens is that life passes by, we spent it trying to change situation, we actually didn't worship Allah at all, when we had the opportunity to do so.

So I think there's something hidden inside us, because I also have these thoughts like everyone else. I think there's something hidden inside us where actually the intention is not just to worship Allah. The intention is to live a relaxed life and to have people look up to you ā€œoh this guy's got money, he's got businessā€¦ā€ and also worship Allah on the side.

But what we're saying is that I want to worship Allāh, and in reality, you have the opportunity to worship Allah now. So if that was really the end objective, you just run straight to the end objective, right? Like imagine you're trying to get to somewhere and you have the opportunity to get there straightaway.

You just go straight away if that's really what you wanted in the first place. So I think there's something hidden inside us inside our heart that actually corrupts that intention. At least that's what I think for me anyway. Allāh knows bestā€

It got me thinking for sure. Lmk your thoughts!
