Why I’m Striving to Be Like a Sheep

Being a sheep doesn’t exactly have cool connotations or come with a ton of street cred, but a recent clip from a lecture I came across gave me a new perspective, and I wanted to share.

Shaykh ibn Taymiyyah said to his students, when he was being imprisoned:

I am not the imprisoned one, the real imprisoned one is the one who has been imprisoned from remembering his Lord, and the real captive is the one who has been held captive by his whims and desires.

the lecturer then said:

I am just like a sheep, wherever i fall, I will fall on cotton. Because I have certainty and I am at peace with my Lord.

This made me reflect on how i must spend more time focusing on contentment, being grateful to Allāh for all He does, and having patience.

No matter what hardship befalls me, i should be like a sheep, i fall on cotton, i am comfortable, i am content.
